Mexico Soon to Become A Popular Tourist Destination for Indian Travellers

The Embassy of Mexico, Mexico Tourism Board and Travel+Leisure India & South Asia conducted a business seminar in Mumbai on September 5, 2014.

Senior professionals from leading travel companies, tour operators and travel agents along with office bearers of several associations such as Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI), and Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) participated in the interactive session.

Mr. Guillermo Eguiarte, Director, Mexico Tourism Board stated that Mexico is among top 15 tourism destinations in the world. Its archaeological sites, diverse culture and beautiful landscape make it a popular destination for both business and leisure travellers. Indians get allured with its delectable food with plenty of vegetarian options, luxurious spas and modern infrastructure.

Mexico’s Ambassador, Jaime Nualart, said in his welcome address, “Mexico is becoming an attractive destination for the rapidly growing market of outbound Indian travellers.

Our proximity with the United States, which is a traditional destination for the Indian traveller, as well as the similar warm weather, historical sites and a rich gastronomic tradition are beginning to lure Indian travellers eager to discover new destinations.”

He added, “In 2013, Mexico played host to 33,380 Indian tourists and the number is expected to grow to 200,000 by the year 2020. In fact, it is anticipated that Mexico will be the number one destination on the American continent for Indians by 2020.”
