2nd Day of 22nd Convergence India 2014 Expo Saw 1st Telecom Summit 2014 on “Home Grown Technologies and Skills"
Taking the theme “Connecting India” further, the Convergence India 2014 expo revolved around the concept of developing skilled personnel and a robust ecosystem for telecom, media and entertainment sectors.
The 1st Telecom summit 2014 on “Home Grown Technologies and Skills’ was inaugurated on the day two of the 22ndConvergence India, 2014 expo. The summit was jointly organized by Telecom Centers of Excellence (TCOE), Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC)and Exhibitions India Group and was supported by Government of India (DoT &DeitY), service providers, manufacturers, training partners, industry associations and academia.
The need to create an environment for innovation was emphasized in the inaugural address of the 1st Telecom Summit 2014. In addition, comments were made on “Indigenous R&D Initiative in India”, “Telecom Skills Initiative”, “Telecom Training”, “Technology prototyping”, “TCOE India’s role and responsibility for NTP 2012”, “Broadband for 600 million” and “TSDSI-Pathway for Indian IPRs into Global Telecom Standards”, by the panelists.
Cmde. J Jena, Director, TCOE India said, “There is a need to promote entrepreneurship, commercialization and deployment of state-of-the-art products and services during the 12th Five Year Plan”.
Lt. Gen. SP Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council, emphasized the importance of ‘skilling’ in the Indian telecom sector- an initiative taken by the government in conjunction with the industry. He further added, “A full proof system is required which can guarantee that the individual hired fulfills the criteria in terms of skills required”.
Day 2 of Convergence India 2014 expo also witnessed other sessions on “Next Gen Television”, “Connecting digital revolution”, “the evolution of Television in India”, “Monetizing the Digitization”.
Mr. Alex Borland, Managing Director & CEO of Exset BV said, “Operators need to take up multi-screen offers for new services, compliance services all to get traction with the consumers and retain them. They also need to look at greater revenue streams through new applications.”
Mr. Prem Behl, Chairman, Exhibitions India Group said, “The turnout at the 2nd day of the Expo has been overwhelming. All the exhibitors expressed satisfaction at receiving quality visitors.
