Araku valley is a small, hill station that is located at a height of around 2992 feet and has a pleasant climate throughout the year. It is near the city of Visakhapatnam in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The hill station is known for its scenic beauty and the surroundings are green and lush. The place is located near the Orissa border and is set amidst lush green hills and has exquisite scenery. Araku Valley is among the most beautiful places in the State. The climate is pleasant throughout the year and can be visited even during the winter months. Araku Valley is famous for the various plantations that can be seen in the area. The road to Araku Valley is through Ghats and there are many hair pins and steep slopes. Sides of the road are covered with thick vegetation, there are many tunnels and bridges and the route is extremely scenic.

1. Borra Caves: Borra Caves were discovered in 1807 by William King George, a British geologist. Located at a distance of 4 km from Ananthagiri of the Araku Valley, Borra Caves is the one of the largest in the country, which stands at a height of about 705 m. and is well known for its aged stalactite and stalagmite formations.
2. Katiki falls: This waterfall is located 4 km away from Borra Caves in Araku Valley. Its major source is the Gosthani River. About 50 ft in height, the surrounding area is well known for trekking activities
3. Padmapuram Gardens: Located in Araku Valley, Padmapuram Gardens is just a short drive from the railway station. These Gardens were set up in 1942 for supplying vegetables to the troop fighters during 2nd World War. Hanging cottages are the major attraction; the garden also has a toy train and houses, unique species of flowers and trees like eucalyptus and pine.
How to reach:
By Air: Araku valley is located around 115 km from the city of Vishakhapatnam. This is the closest airport and there are frequent flights from all parts of the country to city. Most of the main domestic operators have flights to the airport. Taxis are available from the airport to the Araku Valley and costs around Rs 1500.
By Train: There are two railway stations that are located in the Araku Valley. They are located on the East Coast line from Vishakhapatnam. Trains from Vishakhapatnam pass through many tunnels and bridges and this is the best way to travel. Trains cost around Rs 250 for non A/C 3 tier compartments. A/C tickets are also available but due to the cool weather in the valley it is advisable to travel by non A/C compartments.
Buses: Buses are available from Vishakhapatnam to Araku Valley and they are a good option. Private bus operators charge around Rs 300 for non A/C buses.
Best Season / Best time to visit Araku Valley
Summers are cool and are a good time to visit. January is the coldest part of the year and it is a good time to visit the place. Travelers are usually advised to bring protective clothing as there is a possibility of temperatures dropping around 5°C during the nights.
Monsoon season starts in June and the place gets substantial rainfall till October. Traveling during this period is difficult as heavy rain may cause landslides.
